An innovative interior for the Ton Sur Ton hairdressing salon
Simon De Backere got involved in the “Ton Sur Ton” project via Design in Shops Kortrijk, a local initiative where businesses and professional designers work together to make their business more attractive.
Managing Director Nico already had many interesting ideas by the time Simon jumped on board, but certain atmospheric elements and details were still lacking coherence. Simon started working with Nico’s vision and incorporated all the ideas into a harmonious ensemble.
Art Deco in Kortrijk
The interior of Ton Sur Ton stands out with its Art Deco style, which is reflected in the rounded corners and stair-like elements. The gold and oak accents are also a reference to this architectural style. Jules Wabbes lighting fittings complete the look.
A central social place
The design objective was abundantly clear: to create a warm interior where customers can meet each other. This is reflected by the choice of dressing table, a central feature with folding mirrors. This allows more space for interaction between customers and creates a cosy atmosphere while they are waiting.
"For the dressing table, we were looking for a powerful addition to make it even more eye-catching. In the end, we found the solution in the form of W109 VALLEY."
The entire wall of the furniture was cladded with these 3D wall panels.
Since there was no flexible version at the time, they made saw cuts at the back, thereby allowing the panels to bend at the rounded corners. Since then, Orac Decor® has launched flexible versions of the 3D wall panels that are especially developed for curved walls and round shapes like in the dressing table.
To top it all off, Simon added indirect lighting above the 3D wall panels. This makes the relief look even better and provides a theatrical effect.
Commerce Design Kortrijk Award
Ton Sur Ton is proud to be a public winner of the “Commerce Design Kortrijk Award”.
“Commerce Design” is an award programme developed in Montréal, one of Kortrijk’s partner cities within the UNESCO network. The programme aims to promote cooperation between city centre traders and professional designers. It is operated by the Kortrijk Design Region and funded by the city of Kortrijk and Interreg France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen.
Orac Decor® Partnership
Simon’s love for the style comes from the designs of historic buildings. "Often, original elements that make such properties authentic become lost over time. To restore the original atmosphere, I use Orac cornice mouldings, skirting boards and decorative elements."
